Assignment is the legal process that gives the acquirer (assignee) the legal power over the assigned claim that was previously granted to the assignor (assignee). The act of assignment is a legal declaration of intent that must be received. A distinction is also made between assignment on account of payment and mere pledging.

Abtretung 0016-de
Die Abtretung ist der rechtliche Vorgang, der dem Erwerber (Zessionar) die rechtliche Macht über die abgetretene Forderung verleiht, die vorher dem Abtretenden (Zedenten) zugestanden hat. Die Abtretungsverfügung ist eine empfangsbedürftige rechtsgeschäftliche Willenserklärung. Man unterscheidet zudem zwischen der Abtretung zahlungshalber und der blossen Verpfändung.
