European long-term investment funds (ELTIFs)

European long-term investment funds (ELTIFs) are the EU vehicle for long-term investment in the real economy, such as infrastructure, unlisted companies or long-term loans. The legal basis is Regulation (EU) 2015/760; ELTIFs and their managers (AIFMs) require authorisation. As the only EU fund label for alternative investments, ELTIFs may be distributed across Europe to retail investors as well. The revised regulation (ELTIF 2.0), applicable since January 2024, significantly relaxed investment rules and distribution hurdles and turned the previously little-used vehicle into a strongly growing one.

Europäische langfristige Investmentfonds (ELTIF) sind das EU-Vehikel für langfristige Anlagen in die Realwirtschaft, etwa Infrastruktur, nicht kotierte Unternehmen oder langfristige Kredite. Grundlage ist die Verordnung (EU) 2015/760; ELTIF und ihre Verwalter (AIFM) bedürfen der Zulassung. Als einziges EU-Fondslabel für alternative Anlagen dürfen ELTIF europaweit auch an Privatanleger vertrieben werden. Die revidierte Verordnung (ELTIF 2.0), anwendbar seit Januar 2024, lockerte Anlagevorschriften und Vertriebshürden deutlich und verhalf dem zuvor wenig genutzten Vehikel zu starkem Wachstum.
