European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority (EIOPA)

EIOPA was established in January 2011 by Regulation (EU) No 1094/2010 as an independent EU authority succeeding the CEIOPS committee and forms part of the European System of Financial Supervision (ESFS). It oversees insurance and occupational pensions at European level: it drafts technical standards and guidelines, promotes supervisory convergence, provides opinions to the Parliament, the Council and the Commission and analyses the markets. Lacking EU membership, Switzerland is not directly subject to it, but EIOPA shapes the relevant standards.

Die EIOPA wurde im Januar 2011 mit der Verordnung (EU) Nr. 1094/2010 als unabhängige EU-Behörde und Nachfolgerin des Ausschusses CEIOPS errichtet und ist Teil des Europäischen Finanzaufsichtssystems (ESFS). Sie überwacht Versicherungen und Einrichtungen der betrieblichen Altersversorgung auf europäischer Ebene: Sie erarbeitet technische Standards und Leitlinien, fördert die Angleichung der Aufsichtspraxis, nimmt Stellung gegenüber Parlament, Rat und Kommission und analysiert die Märkte. Für die Schweiz ist sie mangels EU-Mitgliedschaft nicht direkt zuständig, prägt aber die Standards.
