The European Banking Authority (EBA) was established in January 2011 by Regulation (EU) No 1093/2010 as an independent EU authority succeeding the CEBS committee; it forms part of the European System of Financial Supervision (ESFS) and is accountable to the Parliament, the Council and the Commission. Its task is an effective and consistent level of regulation and supervision in the European banking sector. It drafts technical standards and guidelines for the single rulebook, promotes convergence of supervisory practice and conducts stress tests.

Die Europäische Bankenaufsichtsbehörde (EBA) wurde im Januar 2011 mit der Verordnung (EU) Nr. 1093/2010 als unabhängige EU-Behörde und Nachfolgerin des Ausschusses CEBS errichtet; sie ist Teil des Europäischen Finanzaufsichtssystems (ESFS) und rechenschaftspflichtig gegenüber Parlament, Rat und Kommission. Ihre Aufgabe ist ein wirksames und kohärentes Mass an Regulierung und Aufsicht im europäischen Bankensektor. Sie erarbeitet technische Standards und Leitlinien für das einheitliche europäische Regelwerk (Single Rulebook), fördert die Angleichung der Aufsichtspraxis und führt Stresstests durch.
