Free litigation (poor law) is the temporary (or definitive) exemption of an impecunious party from the costs of the proceedings. Its purpose is to make it possible to conduct a trial for social reasons where it would otherwise have to be held for lack of funds.

Unentgeltliche Prozessführung (Armenrecht) ist die einstweilige (oder definitive) Befreiung einer unbemittelten Partei von den Prozesskosten. Ihr Zweck ist, die Prozessführung aus sozialen Gründen zu ermöglichen, wo sie sonst aus Mangel an Mitteln unterbleiben müsste.
