Balanced funds are funds that may invest in both equities and fixed-income securities; as a rule there are upper limits for the individual asset classes. Different strategies are offered according to investors' risk capacity: under a growth strategy the equity share is high, under a defensive strategy the bulk of the assets is invested in fixed-income securities, and a balanced strategy keeps equities and bonds roughly in equilibrium. Depending on the provider, such funds are also called portfolio funds, strategy funds or investment strategy funds.

Mischfonds sind Fonds, die sowohl in Aktien als auch in festverzinsliche Werte investieren können; in der Regel bestehen Höchstgrenzen für die einzelnen Anlagekategorien. Je nach Risikofähigkeit der Anleger werden verschiedene Strategien angeboten: Bei einer Wachstumsstrategie ist der Aktienanteil hoch, bei einer defensiven Strategie liegt der Grossteil des Vermögens in festverzinslichen Werten, und die ausgewogene Strategie hält Aktien und Obligationen etwa im Gleichgewicht. Je nach Anbieter werden Mischfonds auch als Portfoliofonds, Strategiefonds oder Anlagestrategiefonds bezeichnet.
