Philanthropy

Philanthropists are people who do good for others or even devote their lives to their fellow beings, i.e. their actions are mainly motivated by altruism. In the USA, where private charities are traditionally important, the term philanthropist is often also applied to people who expend large parts of their assets for charitable purposes. Some banks have special departments for servicing these clients.

Als Philanthropen werden Menschen bezeichnet, die für andere Gutes tun oder gar ihr Leben dem Dienst an ihren Mitmenschen widmen, also vorrangig altruistisch handeln. In den USA, wo private Wohltätigkeit traditionell eine grosse Rolle spielt, wird der Begriff philanthropist (Philanthrop) vielfach auch auf reiche Personen angewandt, die grosse Teile ihres Vermögens zu wohltätigen Zwecken einsetzen. Verschiedene Banken führen zur Betreuung solcher Kunden spezielle Abteilungen.
