The beneficiary clause under insurance law is the exercise of the policyholder's highly personal right to create a third party's own right to the insurance claim (in whole or in part). It makes the insurance contract a genuine contract in favour of a third party.

Die versicherungsrechtliche Begünstigungsklausel ist die Ausübung des höchstpersönlichen Gestaltungsrechts des Versicherungsnehmers, einem Dritten ein eigenes Recht auf den Versicherungsanspruch (ganz oder teilweise) zu verschaffen. Sie macht den Versicherungsvertrag zu einem echten Vertrag zugunsten eines Dritten.
