The post-war boom denotes the period of extraordinary growth between 1950 and 1973, in which Switzerland's real gross domestic product more than doubled and full employment prevailed. It was carried by European reconstruction, an intact industrial base, foreign labour and the expansion of services. It made possible the build-up of the welfare state and of mass consumption. The oil crisis of 1973 ended the period abruptly; in 1975 Switzerland suffered the sharpest contraction of any OECD country.

Als Hochkonjunktur wird die Phase ausserordentlichen Wachstums zwischen 1950 und 1973 bezeichnet, in der das reale Bruttoinlandprodukt der Schweiz sich mehr als verdoppelte und Vollbeschäftigung herrschte. Getragen wurde sie vom europäischen Wiederaufbau, von der intakten Industrie, von ausländischen Arbeitskräften und von der Ausweitung des Dienstleistungssektors. Sie ermöglichte den Ausbau des Sozialstaats und den Massenkonsum. Die Ölkrise von 1973 beendete die Periode abrupt; die Schweiz erlitt 1975 den stärksten Einbruch aller OECD-Staaten.
