Automatic exchange of information

The automatic exchange of information obliges financial institutions to collect account data on clients resident abroad for tax purposes and to transmit them annually, through the tax administration, to the state of residence. It rests on the OECD standard, the multilateral agreement and the Swiss implementing act; Switzerland has applied it since 2017 and today does so with around 100 partner states. Identity, account number, balance and investment income are reported. From 2026 the standard is being extended to crypto-assets.

Der automatische Informationsaustausch verpflichtet Finanzinstitute, Kontodaten steuerlich im Ausland ansässiger Kunden zu erheben und über die Steuerverwaltung jährlich an den Ansässigkeitsstaat zu übermitteln. Grundlage sind der OECD-Standard, das multilaterale Abkommen und das AIA-Gesetz; die Schweiz wendet ihn seit 2017 an, heute gegenüber rund 100 Partnerstaaten. Übermittelt werden Identität, Kontonummer, Saldo und Kapitalerträge. Ab 2026 wird der Standard auf Kryptowerte ausgedehnt.
