The witness is the person who, in criminal proceedings in which he is not directly involved himself (as an official, party, etc.), is supposed to give the court information about sensory perceptions (facts, not conclusions) made by him.

Der Zeuge ist derjenige, der in einem Strafverfahren, an dem er nicht selbst (als Amtsperson, Partei etc.) unmittelbar beteiligt ist, über von ihm gemachte sinnliche Wahrnehmungen (Tatsachen, nicht Schlussfolgerungen) dem Gericht Auskunft geben soll.
