Micromanagement

Micromanagement denotes the excessive control of details that belong within employees' own competence. It usually springs from the manager's insecurity or need for control rather than from genuine necessity. The consequences are demotivation, loss of initiative, the departure of the ablest, and the overloading of the manager herself, who becomes the bottleneck of her own organisation. The remedy lies in clear agreements about the objective and the result, rather than about the route to it.

Mikromanagement bezeichnet die übermässige Kontrolle von Details, die dem Zuständigkeitsbereich der Mitarbeitenden zustehen. Es entspringt meist Unsicherheit oder Kontrollbedürfnis der Führungskraft, seltener echter Notwendigkeit. Die Folgen sind Demotivation, Verlust an Eigeninitiative, Abwanderung der Fähigsten und die Überlastung der Führungskraft selbst, die zur Engstelle ihrer eigenen Organisation wird. Abhilfe schaffen klare Vereinbarungen über Ziel und Ergebnis statt über den Weg dorthin.
