Active listening

Active listening denotes a conversational stance going back to Carl Rogers, in which the listener summarises what has been heard in his own words, asks what was meant and names the feelings behind it. Its purpose is not agreement but understanding, and checking whether one has understood correctly. In conflict and critical conversations it lowers the other party's defences, because he feels heard before objections are raised.

Aktives Zuhören 1011-de
Aktives Zuhören bezeichnet eine auf Carl Rogers zurückgehende Gesprächshaltung, bei der die zuhörende Person das Gehörte in eigenen Worten zusammenfasst, nach dem Gemeinten fragt und die dahinterliegenden Gefühle benennt. Es dient nicht der Zustimmung, sondern dem Verstehen und der Prüfung, ob man richtig verstanden hat. In Konflikt- und Kritikgesprächen senkt es die Abwehr des Gegenübers, weil dieses sich zunächst gehört fühlt, bevor Einwände zur Sprache kommen.
