Private key

The private key is the secret string with which a transaction on a distributed ledger is signed; the corresponding public key serves as the address and allows the signature to be verified. Whoever holds the private key effectively controls the asset; hence the maxim that without your own keys there are no coins of your own. The key cannot be recovered; loss or theft means the balance is lost for good.

Der private Schlüssel ist die geheime Zeichenfolge, mit der eine Transaktion auf einem verteilten Register signiert wird; der zugehörige öffentliche Schlüssel dient als Adresse und erlaubt die Prüfung der Signatur. Wer den privaten Schlüssel besitzt, verfügt faktisch über den Vermögenswert; daher der Merksatz, dass ohne eigene Schlüssel keine eigenen Coins bestehen. Der Schlüssel lässt sich nicht wiederherstellen; Verlust oder Diebstahl führen zum endgültigen Verlust des Guthabens.
