Questioning technique

Questioning technique is the mediator's central steering instrument. Open questions uncover interests, circular questions change perspective ('What would your business partner say about this?'), hypothetical questions test solutions ('Suppose payment were secured...'), and scaling questions make assessments comparable. Suggestive and 'why' questions are avoided, as they create pressure to justify and endanger neutrality.

Offene Fragen erschliessen Interessen, zirkuläre Fragen wechseln die Perspektive ('Was würde Ihr Geschäftspartner dazu sagen?'), hypothetische Fragen testen Lösungen ('Angenommen, die Zahlung wäre gesichert...'), Skalierungsfragen machen Einschätzungen vergleichbar. Suggestiv- und Warum-Fragen werden vermieden, da sie Rechtfertigungsdruck erzeugen und die Neutralität gefährden.
