Remote leadership

Remote leadership denotes leading employees who work in different places and predominantly through digital means. It makes the incidental perception of moods and problems harder and therefore demands more deliberate communication: clear objectives instead of presence control, binding rhythms of exchange, explicit recognition. The risks are isolation, unequal visibility of those present and those absent, and the temptation of electronic monitoring, which destroys trust.

Führung auf Distanz bezeichnet die Führung von Mitarbeitenden, die räumlich getrennt und überwiegend digital vermittelt arbeiten. Sie erschwert die beiläufige Wahrnehmung von Stimmungen und Problemen und verlangt deshalb bewusstere Kommunikation: klare Ziele statt Präsenzkontrolle, verbindliche Rhythmen des Austauschs, ausdrückliche Anerkennung. Risiken sind Isolation, ungleiche Sichtbarkeit von Anwesenden und Abwesenden sowie die Versuchung der elektronischen Überwachung, die Vertrauen zerstört.
