Tokenisation is the representation of an asset as a token on a distributed ledger. It permits fractionalisation into very small units, round-the-clock trading and the automation of settlement and corporate actions. In Switzerland it has been legally secure since the DLT Act introduced the ledger-based security; shares, bonds, fund units, real estate and art are tokenised. Practical uptake has lagged behind expectations, chiefly for want of secondary market liquidity.

Tokenisierung ist die Abbildung eines Vermögenswerts als Token auf einem verteilten Register. Sie erlaubt die Stückelung in kleinste Anteile, den Handel rund um die Uhr und die Automatisierung von Abwicklung und Kapitalmassnahmen. In der Schweiz ist sie seit dem DLT-Gesetz über das Registerwertrecht rechtssicher möglich; tokenisiert werden Aktien, Anleihen, Fondsanteile, Immobilien und Kunst. Die praktische Verbreitung bleibt hinter den Erwartungen zurück, vor allem mangels Liquidität auf dem Sekundärmarkt.
