Named after Friedrich Traugott Wahlen, the plan was the programme to raise self-sufficiency during the Second World War. From 1940 the area under cultivation was doubled from around 180,000 to more than 350,000 hectares; even sports grounds and parks were ploughed up. Self-sufficiency rose from about 52 to nearly 60 per cent without removing dependence on imports. The cultivation campaign worked above all psychologically, as a symbol of spiritual national defence, and shaped agricultural policy into the 1990s.

Der nach Friedrich Traugott Wahlen benannte Plan war das Programm zur Steigerung der Selbstversorgung während des Zweiten Weltkriegs. Ab 1940 wurde die Ackerfläche von rund 180 000 auf über 350 000 Hektaren verdoppelt; selbst Sportplätze und Parkanlagen wurden umgepflügt. Der Selbstversorgungsgrad stieg von etwa 52 auf gegen 60 Prozent, ohne die Abhängigkeit von Importen zu beseitigen. Die Anbauschlacht wirkte vor allem psychologisch als Symbol der geistigen Landesverteidigung und prägte die Agrarpolitik bis in die 1990er-Jahre.
