Crypto Valley

Crypto Valley denotes the cluster of blockchain firms in the Zug and Zurich area. It grew from 2013 around the Ethereum Foundation and benefited from low taxes, short administrative channels and regulatory openness; since 2016 the City of Zug has accepted Bitcoin for public fees. The cluster comprises several hundred companies and foundations. It also shows the other side of the coin: after the crypto markets slumped in 2022, valuations and employment shrank markedly.

Crypto Valley bezeichnet das Cluster von Blockchain-Unternehmen im Raum Zug und Zürich. Es entstand ab 2013 rund um die Ethereum Foundation und profitierte von tiefen Steuern, kurzen Behördenwegen und regulatorischer Offenheit; die Stadt Zug akzeptiert seit 2016 Bitcoin für Gebühren. Der Cluster umfasst mehrere hundert Unternehmen und Stiftungen. Er zeigt aber auch die Kehrseite: Nach dem Einbruch der Kryptomärkte im Jahr 2022 schrumpften Bewertungen und Beschäftigung deutlich.
