Embedded finance

Embedded finance denotes the embedding of financial services in products and processes of other industries: instalment payment in a web shop, insurance when buying a bicycle, an account inside accounting software. Customers no longer perceive the bank; it supplies the function through interfaces in the background. For the bank this means access to new distribution channels but also the loss of the client relationship. In supervisory terms it remains responsible for the outsourced function.

Embedded Finance bezeichnet die Einbettung von Finanzdienstleistungen in branchenfremde Produkte und Prozesse: die Ratenzahlung im Webshop, die Versicherung beim Kauf eines Velos, das Konto in einer Buchhaltungssoftware. Die Kundschaft nimmt die Bank nicht mehr wahr; diese liefert die Funktion über Schnittstellen im Hintergrund. Für die Bank bedeutet dies Zugang zu neuen Vertriebskanälen, aber auch den Verlust der Kundenbeziehung. Aufsichtsrechtlich bleibt sie für die ausgelagerte Funktion verantwortlich.
