The state electronic identity is a digital proof of identity allowing people to identify themselves online and offline. After a privately issued solution was rejected in 2021, voters narrowly accepted a new E-ID Act on 28 September 2025 with 50.4 per cent. The Confederation is the issuer; the E-ID is voluntary, free of charge and held in the swiyu wallet app. Its introduction has been delayed; the trust infrastructure is expected to become operational in the first half of 2027.

Die staatliche E-ID ist ein digitaler Identitätsnachweis, mit dem sich Personen online und offline ausweisen können. Nach dem Nein von 2021 zu einer privat herausgegebenen Lösung nahm das Volk am 28. September 2025 ein neues E-ID-Gesetz mit 50,4 Prozent knapp an. Herausgeberin ist der Bund; die E-ID ist freiwillig, kostenlos und wird in der Wallet-App swiyu gehalten. Die Einführung verzögert sich; die Vertrauensinfrastruktur soll im ersten Halbjahr 2027 den Betrieb aufnehmen.
