Groupthink

Groupthink denotes the process described by Irving Janis in which, within a cohesive group, the striving for unanimity displaces the realistic appraisal of alternatives. Its symptoms are an illusion of invulnerability, self-censorship of dissenting views and pressure on those who think differently. The remedies are the role of devil's advocate, seeking outside perspectives, and the leader's holding back her own opinion at the start of the discussion.

Gruppendenken bezeichnet den von Irving Janis beschriebenen Prozess, bei dem in einer kohäsiven Gruppe das Streben nach Einmütigkeit die realistische Beurteilung von Alternativen verdrängt. Symptome sind die Illusion der Unverwundbarkeit, die Selbstzensur abweichender Meinungen und der Druck auf Andersdenkende. Gegenmittel sind die Rolle des Advocatus Diaboli, das Einholen externer Sichtweisen und die Zurückhaltung der Führungskraft mit der eigenen Meinung zu Beginn der Diskussion.
