Project Helvetia

Project Helvetia is the joint series of experiments by the Swiss National Bank, SIX and the Bank for International Settlements on settling tokenised securities in central bank money. After two technical feasibility studies, a pilot with real franc-denominated wholesale central bank money followed from late 2023 on the SIX Digital Exchange, settling digital bonds of several issuers. The pilot was extended; a decision on permanent operation is still outstanding.

Projekt Helvetia ist die gemeinsame Versuchsreihe von Schweizerischer Nationalbank, SIX und der Bank für Internationalen Zahlungsausgleich zur Abwicklung tokenisierter Effekten in Zentralbankgeld. Nach zwei technischen Machbarkeitsstudien folgte ab Ende 2023 ein Pilot mit echtem, auf Franken lautendem Wholesale-Zentralbankgeld auf der SIX Digital Exchange, in dem digitale Anleihen mehrerer Emittenten abgewickelt wurden. Der Pilot wurde verlängert; ein Entscheid über den dauerhaften Betrieb steht aus.
