Resistance to change

Resistance to change is the rejecting reaction to a change experienced as threatening. It rarely targets the change as such but the feared loss of security, status or competence, and the sense of being decided about over one's head. It shows itself openly as contradiction, or covertly as delay and working to rule. It is information, not disturbance: it shows where concerns have gone unanswered.

Widerstand gegen Veränderung ist die ablehnende Reaktion auf einen als bedrohlich erlebten Wandel. Er richtet sich selten gegen die Veränderung als solche, sondern gegen befürchteten Verlust an Sicherheit, Status oder Kompetenz und gegen das Gefühl, über den eigenen Kopf hinweg entschieden zu werden. Er äussert sich offen als Widerspruch oder verdeckt als Verzögerung und Dienst nach Vorschrift. Er ist Information, nicht Störung: Er zeigt, wo Bedenken unbeantwortet blieben.
