Role conflict

A role conflict exists where incompatible expectations are directed at one person. In an intra-role conflict the expectations within a single role contradict one another, as where a manager is to be both confidante and appraiser. In an inter-role conflict different roles collide, such as work and family. Role conflicts go together with stress, dissatisfaction and intention to quit; they can be mitigated by clarifying expectations and priorities, but seldom resolved entirely.

Ein Rollenkonflikt liegt vor, wenn an eine Person unvereinbare Erwartungen gerichtet werden. Beim Intra-Rollenkonflikt widersprechen sich die Erwartungen innerhalb einer Rolle, etwa wenn die Führungskraft zugleich Vertraute und Beurteilerin sein soll. Beim Inter-Rollenkonflikt kollidieren verschiedene Rollen, etwa Beruf und Familie. Rollenkonflikte gehen mit Stress, Unzufriedenheit und Kündigungsabsicht einher; sie lassen sich durch Klärung der Erwartungen und Prioritäten mindern, selten ganz auflösen.
