Servant leadership

Servant leadership reverses the customary direction of view: the leader understands herself first of all as a servant of her team, removing obstacles, providing resources and fostering the development of individuals. Coined by Robert Greenleaf in 1970, the approach emphasises listening, empathy and responsibility towards the community. It strengthens trust and commitment, but reaches its limits where swift decisions or unpopular measures are required.

Der von Robert Greenleaf 1970 geprägte Ansatz betont Zuhören, Empathie und Verantwortung gegenüber der Gemeinschaft. Er stärkt Vertrauen und Bindung, stösst jedoch an Grenzen, wo rasche Entscheide oder unpopuläre Massnahmen nötig sind.
