Social issues have a broad focus. They range from tasks related to community needs, such as improving health care and the education system, to issues related to the workplace, including respect for human rights and issues such as equal treatment and stakeholder engagement. Examples include labour standards (in the supply chain, child labour, slavery), relationships with local communities, human capital management, controversial business practices (weapons, conflict zones), health standards, freedom of association and assembly, etc.

Soziale Themen haben einen breiten Fokus. Sie reichen von Aufgaben mit Bezug zu kommunalen Bedürfnissen, etwa die Verbesserung der Gesundheitsversorgung und des Bildungssystems, zu Themen, die mit dem Arbeitsplatz zusammenhängen inklusive der Einhaltung von Menschenrechten und Themen wie Gleichbehandlung sowie Stakeholder Engagement. Beispiele hierfür sind Arbeitsstandards (in der Zulieferkette, Kinderarbeit, Sklaverei), Beziehungen zu den lokalen Gemeinden, Human-Kapital-Management, kontroverse Geschäftspraktiken (Waffen, Konfliktzonen), Gesundheitsstandards, die Vereinigungs- und Versammlungsfreiheit etc.
