A sustainability rating is the assessment of companies, issuers or funds against ESG criteria by specialised agencies such as MSCI ESG, Sustainalytics or ISS ESG. It draws on corporate reporting, data providers and controversy analyses and serves investors as a selection and monitoring tool. Criticism concerns the low correlation between providers, opaque methodologies and conflicts of interest; the EU has therefore made ESG rating providers subject to regulation.

Das Nachhaltigkeitsrating ist die Beurteilung von Unternehmen, Emittenten oder Fonds nach ESG-Kriterien durch spezialisierte Agenturen wie MSCI ESG, Sustainalytics oder ISS ESG. Es stützt sich auf Berichterstattung, Datenanbieter und Kontroversenanalysen und dient Anlegern als Auswahl- und Kontrollinstrument. Kritisiert werden geringe Korrelation zwischen den Anbietern, Methodenintransparenz und Interessenkonflikte; die EU hat die ESG-Rating-Anbieter deshalb einer Regulierung unterstellt.
