Video identification allows a business relationship to be opened without personal attendance: the client identifies himself in a recorded video call using an identity document whose security features are checked. It rests on the FINMA circular on digital client onboarding. Among other things, a random number and a liveness check are prescribed. Deepfakes are putting the procedure under growing pressure, and FINMA has therefore tightened the requirements several times.

Die Videoidentifikation erlaubt die Aufnahme einer Geschäftsbeziehung ohne persönliches Erscheinen: Die Kundin oder der Kunde weist sich in einer aufgezeichneten Videokonferenz mit einem Ausweisdokument aus, dessen Sicherheitsmerkmale geprüft werden. Grundlage ist das FINMA-Rundschreiben zur digitalen Kundenidentifikation. Vorgeschrieben sind unter anderem eine Zufallszahl und die Prüfung der Lebendigkeit. Deepfakes setzen das Verfahren zunehmend unter Druck; die FINMA hat die Anforderungen deshalb mehrfach verschärft.
