White-money strategy

The white-money strategy is the policy pursued from 2009 under which the Swiss financial centre is to accept and manage only assets that have been taxed. It was the response to the tax dispute with the United States, to OECD blacklists and to pressure from the European Union. It was implemented through adoption of the OECD standard on administrative assistance, through extended due diligence duties for banks and finally through the automatic exchange of information. It effectively ended the business model of cross-border tax avoidance.

Die Weissgeldstrategie ist die ab 2009 verfolgte Politik, wonach der schweizerische Finanzplatz nur noch versteuerte Vermögen entgegennehmen und verwalten soll. Sie war die Antwort auf den Steuerstreit mit den USA, auf schwarze Listen der OECD und auf den Druck der EU. Umgesetzt wurde sie durch die Übernahme des OECD-Standards zur Amtshilfe, durch erweiterte Sorgfaltspflichten der Banken und schliesslich durch den automatischen Informationsaustausch. Sie beendete das Geschäftsmodell des grenzüberschreitenden Steuersparens faktisch.
