RegTech denotes technologies with which supervised firms meet their regulatory obligations more efficiently. Typical applications are the automated identification of clients, screening against sanctions lists, monitoring transactions for suspicion of money laundering, and the machine generation of regulatory reports. It is driven by the sharp rise in regulatory density since the financial crisis. Responsibility remains with the institution: outsourcing a duty to a system does not relieve its officers of it.

RegTech bezeichnet Technologien, mit denen beaufsichtigte Unternehmen ihre regulatorischen Pflichten effizienter erfüllen. Typische Anwendungen sind die automatisierte Identifikation von Kunden, das Screening gegen Sanktionslisten, die Überwachung von Transaktionen auf Geldwäschereiverdacht und die maschinelle Erstellung aufsichtsrechtlicher Meldungen. Treiber ist die seit der Finanzkrise stark gestiegene Regulierungsdichte. Die Verantwortung bleibt beim Institut: Das Auslagern einer Pflicht an ein System entlastet die Organe nicht.
