SupTech denotes the use of digital technologies by the supervisory authority itself. Instead of samples and periodic reports, data analysis and machine learning permit the continuous evaluation of large data volumes and the early detection of anomalies. FINMA uses SupTech, for instance, to analyse transaction and market data. Its limits lie in data quality, in the explainability of algorithmic findings, and in the principle that a supervisory ruling requires reasons that can be followed.

SupTech bezeichnet den Einsatz digitaler Technologien durch die Aufsichtsbehörde selbst. Statt Stichproben und periodischer Meldungen erlauben Datenanalyse und maschinelles Lernen die laufende Auswertung grosser Datenmengen und die frühzeitige Erkennung von Auffälligkeiten. Die FINMA nutzt SupTech etwa zur Analyse von Transaktions- und Marktdaten. Grenzen setzen die Datenqualität, die Erklärbarkeit algorithmischer Befunde und der Grundsatz, dass eine aufsichtsrechtliche Verfügung eine nachvollziehbare Begründung verlangt.
